Ozeaneum

Whether it is the OZEANEUM as a new attraction itself, or the combination with the destination’s diverse tourism offer - A visit to Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania turns into a memorable experience.
The OZEANEUM in Stralsund

Stralsund, a historical site of hanseatic monuments, has been a popular destination for many years. Especially tourists spending their holidays at nearby seaside resorts, but also individual travellers having a one-day trip are attracted to the city.

Besides the impressing historical architecture, annual events like the Historical Monuments Night, the Stralsund Swim in the Sound or the Stralsund Wallenstein Festival enjoy a long tradition. Among the city’s most popular sites, the German Oceanographic Museum holds an essential position.

The German Oceanographic Museum Foundation and the Hanseatic town of Stralsund are currently breaking new grounds. By realisation of the OZEANEUM an imposing accentuation to the town and its structure of tourism offer will be achieved.
The OZEANEUM on Stralsund Harbour Island

The realisation of the OZEANEUM will effectuate a movement in supply on harbour island and enrich the location in an economic and visual way. Numerous gastronomical facilities like bars and restaurants, but also fish and snacks to go are already settled on the island. The local Theatre Vorpommern offers seasonal performances on the theatre boat at the harbour. Also the former sail training ship Gorch Fock I can be visited at the quay of Harbour Island.

A few steps from here the landing stages of different shipping companies are located in order to offer their passages to the islands Hiddensee and Rügen or harbour tours to the guests. Besides, also cruise liners (up to a specific size) are welcome to land at harbour island quay for a stopover in Stralsund.

The central position of the harbour island invites people for walks into Stralsund’s historical city centre, the nearby north pier with marina or along the Sund Promenade. From the Strelasund and Rügen as a perspective of view, the harbour island is a characteristic point of the city’s silhouette.

For the future the harbour island in Stralsund still contains great potential whereas the OZEANEUM is a crucial step into this future.
